Product Details

Clove Oil (Eugenia caryophyllata) is a pure, natural essential oil and is used as a flavoring as well as in aromatherapy.

1 dram = about 1 teaspoon

This flavor is oil-soluble and suitable for flavoring fine chocolates and confectionary coatings. This flavor is also appropriate for use in chocolate mixtures such as ganache, fudges, fondants, and icings (typical use is ¼ - ½ teaspoon per pound of chocolate or coating).

Note: When substituting these flavors for extracts, use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon for 1 teaspoon of extract.

Benefits of Clove Essential Oil

Antioxidant Properties: Clove essential oil is rich in antioxidants, which help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. This can aid in maintaining overall health and preventing chronic diseases.

Antimicrobial Effects: Known for its antimicrobial properties, clove essential oil can help in fighting off infections and maintaining oral health. It is often used in dental care products to combat bad breath and reduce gum inflammation.

Pain Relief: The natural analgesic properties of clove essential oil make it effective in relieving pain, especially toothaches and muscle pain. Its warming sensation can provide temporary relief from discomfort when applied topically.

Digestive Aid: Clove essential oil can promote healthy digestion by reducing bloating, gas, and indigestion. It can be diluted and massaged onto the abdomen or used in aromatherapy to support digestive health.

Respiratory Health: The expectorant properties of clove essential oil can help in relieving respiratory issues such as coughs, colds, and asthma. Inhalation of its vapors can help clear nasal passages and improve breathing.

Suggested Uses

Culinary Applications: Clove essential oil is a powerful flavoring agent that should be used sparingly due to its potency. It is ideal for enhancing the flavor of chocolates, baked goods, and savory dishes. Here are some tips for using clove oil in cooking:

  • Chocolates and Coatings: Use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of clove essential oil per pound of chocolate or coating to impart a warm, spicy note.
  • Substituting Extracts: When replacing clove extract with clove essential oil in recipes, use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of clove essential oil for every teaspoon of extract required.

Aromatherapy: Clove essential oil's robust aroma makes it a popular choice in aromatherapy for promoting mental clarity and reducing stress. Here are some ways to use clove essential oil in your aromatherapy practices:

  • Diffusion: Add a few drops of clove essential oil to your diffuser to fill your space with its warm, spicy scent. This can help purify the air, uplift your mood, and create a cozy atmosphere.
  • Massage: Dilute clove essential oil with a carrier oil and use it for a warming massage to relieve sore muscles and joint pain. Its analgesic properties can provide soothing relief.
  • Inhalation: Inhale the vapors directly from the bottle or add a few drops to a bowl of hot water and breathe in the steam to support respiratory health.
