Attach the Tip: Place your piping tip inside the narrow end of the bag. If you're using a coupler, screw it on to hold the tip in place—this makes it easy to switch tips without refilling the bag.
Prepare the Bag: Fold down the wide end of the bag to create a cuff. This keeps the outside of the bag clean and makes filling easier.
Fill: Place the bag upright in a tall glass or measuring cup for stability. Use a spatula to add frosting or filling, pressing it down gently to avoid air pockets. Fill only about two-thirds full to maintain control when piping.
Seal and Press: Unfold the cuff, then twist the top of the bag to close. Press the filling downward to remove any air pockets and ensure smooth, even flow.
Pipe with Control: Hold the twisted end of the bag with your dominant hand to apply pressure. Use your other hand to guide and stabilize the piping tip.
When you finish a design, release pressure on the bag first, then lift with a slight twist to prevent frosting from trailing or creating unwanted lines.
