Super-Strength Flavors ~ Also known as Candy Oils or Flavoring Oils

LorAnn Super-Strength Flavors are 3 to 4 times stronger than typical alcohol-based extracts. These intense, versatile flavors stand up to high heat—making them ideal for hard candy and confections—and they can be used to flavor just about anything.

Recommended Uses:
  • Hard candy, fudge, marshmallows, brittles, and cake pops
  • Most flavors are suitable for use in chocolate. See our Flavors Suitable for Chocolate Guide for full recommendations.
  • Baked goods like cakes, cookies, muffins, frosting, and fondant (Use ¼ to ½ teaspoon per 1 cup of butter or fat)
  • Ice cream and frozen desserts

Key Features:
  • Highly concentrated
  • Gluten-free
  • Free of nut and dairy allergens

Note: Super-Strength Flavors are very concentrated—start with a small amount and adjust to taste.

Safe Handling Tips:

We recommend the following precautions when using Super-Strength Flavors:

  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Do not ingest undiluted
  • Wipe up spills promptly—prolonged contact may damage countertops
  • Avoid using plastic bowls and utensils
  • Use caution around rising steam when making hard candy

Special Note: Cinnamon Oil, Hot Cinnamon Flavor, Jalapeño Flavor, and Hot Chili Oil may cause irritation or a burning sensation if they come into contact with skin, eyes, or mucous membranes.

  • If contact occurs with skin: Wash immediately with warm, soapy water to remove oils
  • If contact occurs with eyes or mucous membranes: Flush with cool water
  • Seek medical attention if irritation or burning persists

Compounded Naturals

LorAnn Compounded Naturals are concentrated, compounded flavors made with natural flavor components—but are not essential oils. These flavorings are approximately 2X stronger than typical alcohol-based extracts and about half as strong as our Super-Strength Flavors.

Recommended Uses:
  • Soft candies such as taffy, caramels, fudge, gummies, and other confections (Not recommended for use in hard candy or chocolate)
  • Baked goods like cookies, cakes, and muffins
  • Ice cream and other frozen dessert
Key Features:
  • Gluten-free
  • Concentrated
  • Kosher certified (except Creamy Caramel and Toffee)
  • Free of nut and dairy allergens

Bakery Emulsions

Bakery emulsions are water-based alternatives to traditional baking extracts. Professional bakers often prefer emulsions over alcohol-based extracts because the flavor is more robust and does not "bake-out" when exposed to high heat. LorAnn Bakery Emulsions deliver superior results at a great value—they are equivalent in strength to baking extracts: 1 teaspoon emulsion = 1 teaspoon extract

Recommended Uses:
  • Baked goods such as cookies, cakes, muffins, brownies and sweet breads
  • Frostings and glazes
Key Features:
  • Heat-stable, water-based formula for consistent flavor in baked goods
  • Gluten-free
  • Most are Kosher certified
  • Free of nut and dairy allergens (except Cream Cheese, which contains dairy)

Vanilla Extracts

Our vanilla extracts are made from premium ingredients and are comparable to other high-end vanilla extract brands, but often at a lower price point.

Recommended Uses:
  • Baked goods
  • Frostings and glazes
  • Confections
  • Ice cream and beverages
Key Features:
  • Gluten-free
  • Kosher certified
  • Free of nut and dairy allergens

Are LorAnn products vegetarian and vegan-friendly?

Yes—most LorAnn flavors and food ingredients are appropriate for both vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. For details, see our Vegan Statement and list of suitable products.

What Is the shelf life of your food-grade essential oils and flavors?

A “best by” date is printed on all LorAnn flavor bottles—on the safety seal for 1-dram sizes and on the label for larger bottles. While not required in the U.S., this date helps meet import regulations for many other countries.

For best results, store flavors with caps tightly closed in a cool, dark place. Exposure to heat and sunlight can degrade essential oils and flavorings. When stored properly, most flavors will remain potent for several years.

Note: Citrus oils tend to degrade more quickly but can be refrigerated to help extend shelf life. If a flavor or essential oil appears cloudy, loses its strong aroma, or smells off, it’s time to replace it.
